Your Building, Your Community: Start Here
Find your bearings: your lot, shared property and the people who make decisions.
Committee Essentials in Practice brings together six short Academy courses, with clear explanations, everyday examples and guidance along the way. You do not need to know all the answers before you begin.
Independent Academy learning. These courses support your practical skills; they do not replace the mandatory NSW Fair Trading course or award its certificate.
Allow around 15–20 minutes per course, including activities. Members can save their progress, revisit examples and keep a practical checklist.
Find your bearings: your lot, shared property and the people who make decisions.
Understand your role, work as a team and know when to ask for help.
Prepare with confidence, make clear decisions and share the follow-up.
Practise fair judgement, recognise conflicts and handle information carefully.
Connect the budget, maintenance plan and the condition of your shared home.
Listen well, handle disagreement and find a calm, lawful way forward.
A resident reports water beside a window. Someone says, “It is inside the apartment, so it must be the owner’s problem.” What would you check before agreeing?
It is natural to start with where the water appears. Let’s also check where it came from, the property boundary and any relevant by-laws. Record the facts, address immediate risk and seek the appropriate inspection before deciding responsibility.
You do not need to diagnose the problem yourself. Knowing what to ask next is a useful committee skill.
Each course includes a worked situation, short knowledge checks with helpful feedback, a reflection activity and links to deeper Academy resources. Your practice completion is recorded separately from official NSW training.
How is easy when you know the why.
